Brighten a winter night with a wonderful concert by The Pacifica Quartet. Candlelight Concerts presents the quartet recognized for its virtuosity and exuberance on January 23, 2010 at 8:00 p.m. in the Smith Theatre at Howard Community College. Since its inception in 1994, The Pacifica Quarter has won top prizes in international competitions including the 1998 Naumberg Chamber Music Competition. They were appointed to the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center’s CMS Two program for gifted young musicians in 2002. In that same year they earned the coveted Cleveland Quartet Award followed in 2006 by the Avery Fischer Career grant, only the second chamber group selected.
The members of the quartet are Simin Ganatra, violin; Sibbi Bernhardsson, violin; Masumi Rostad, viola; and Brandon Vamos on cello. They will play the StrinQartete in B-flat Major, Op. 18, No.6, “La Malinconia;” Quartet in E-flay, Op. 74, “Harp;” and Quartet in F, Op. 135.
The evening will begin with a pre-concert talk at 7:15 p.m. Smith Theatre is located at 10901 Little Patuxent Parkway in Columbia. Advance tickets for adults are only $29 and $12 for students. At the door, adults pay $30; seniors $28; and students $12. Children age 9-17 are free when accompanied by a paying adult.
