Rockbridge Academy and Indian Creek Meet. ICS Eagles Capture First-ever Tournament Championship!
Crownsville’s two high school girls varsity basketball teams kicked off the Inter-County Basketball Tournament on Friday, November 13. Friday night Indian Creek tipped off the Inter-County Basketball Tournament with a victory over Rockbridge Academy. The Eagles got off to a great start and led Rockbridge 28 to 3 at the half. Offensively the Eagles were led by Rhian Sellars with 12, Lexi McCormick with 10 and Siena Roccograndi with 8. Defensively the Eagles created point off turnovers as they held Rockbridge to 9 total points with the final being 47 to 9, setting up a game with the winner of the Key School, Calverton game.
Saturday afternoon Indian Creek hosted the Calverton School. Both teams came into the game under manned. Calverton had several key players who did not participate in the game. However, Indian Creek was also missing two starters in Hannah Smith and Siena Roccograndi. Indian Creek was once again led by Rhian Sellars as she led all scorers with 15 points. The Eagles got scoring help from freshman Kiana Dawson and sophomore Kristin Majors, both with 8 points and 6 rebounds. Defensively Lexi McCormick being petite in stature but a giant at heart locked down Calverton’s Selby, holding her to only 3 points in the second half. Indian Creek girls basketball program, just three years old, went on to win their first-ever basketball tournament.The final score 46 to 34.
Tournament awards went to Rhian Sellars and Becky Kinder, with Kinder earning the Most Outstanding Tournament Player.
