Crownsville: My friend Phyllis Everette has been part of the Annapolis Chorale for most of her adult life. She was the manager for quite a bit of that time and participated as the group went from a local organization to one of greater recognition. They have sung at Carnegie Hall. They added a fabulous youth chorus, which adds some of the areas best young voices to their performances. They’ve broadened their repertoire. Fortunately for us they’ve taken their show on the road, too. Phyllis has passed on the information about a great summer entertainment opportunity. The Chorale will be treating their audience to a fabulous program over on the shores of the Magothy this coming week.Starlit Broadway is “an outdoor concert beside the Chesapeake Bay celebrating the Great White Way’s finest gem.” They’ll be singing from the lawn of Gibson Island Country School on July 18 at 7:30 p.m.
You”re invited to join live Arts Music Director J. Ernest Green and the Annapolis Chorale along with the Erik Apland Quartet and soloists Shouvik Mondle, Fainah Tilfah, and Katie Hale. They’ll be performing many audience pleasers from Broadway: Phantom of the Opera Les Miserables, West Side Story plus the standards of Rodgers and Hammerstein. This performance will be just a sample of the music to come from Live Arts Maryland’s upcoming “Broaway in Annapolis concerts for the 2009-2010 season. Man o La Mancha and Oklahoma! will be the first featured Broadway hits.
Plan for your evening outdoors this coming Saturday evening, July 18. Picnic on the lawn of Gibson Island Country School with your picnic basket, coolers and lawn chairs. (Alcohol permitted for guests 21 years and older.) Parking is free– look for the signs on Mountain Road near the campus. The Chorale will shuttle you to the school.
